ENDOSCOPIC THYROIDECTOMY WITHOUT VISIBLE SCARS ON THE NECK

Dr. Òscar Vidal and his team performed the first endoscopic thyroidectomy performed via an axillary approach of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona.

This has been possible thanks to a project developed jointly with other hospitals in the world, with special mention to the Da Luz Arrabida Hospital in Porto with its leading surgeon Dr. Jaime Vilaça, with the purpose of improving and innovating in this field. Specific training has been carried out, first on laboratory animals and later on cadavers in order to consolidate a new approach that will provide adequate levels of comfort, quality and safety for patients affected by thyroid nodules, without having to make neck incisions.
